Bluegrass For Hospice

Enjoy some photos below of the event that was held on

Saturday October 24, 2009

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone that attended the Bluegrass for Hospice on Saturday October 24, 2009.  It was a success and we raised just under $8,000.00 which was $2,000.00 shy of my goal.  All of the money raised goes to the new, Hospice House of St. Mary’s that is located in Callaway, MD.

I’d like to thank the many generous business’s in St. Mary’s County, and to the Amish/Mennonite Community for there door prize donations and Silent Auction items.  There were many of you and thanks to my Dad, Johnny Armsworthy & Tina Williams for getting many of those door prizes & Silent Auction items.  You all did a fabulous job.

Thanks so much to the sponsor’s of the event: Community Bank of Tri County, St. Mary’s County Arts Council, and Winter’s Heating & Cooling, PNC Bank, W.M. Davis, Inc, Executive Inn & Suites, Phillip Riehl-State Farm Insurance Agent, Southern Maryland Women Magazine for the great ad, Dot Bell & the Bell Boy’s Bus Service, Blue Heron Services, and The Printing Press for all of my printing needs.  They were great to work with and did a fantastic job.  To each and everyone reading this, support the business’s that were involved when you can, they’re part of our great County and very generous.

The Hospice of St. Mary’s volunteers, board members, and staff, thank you for your participation at Saturdays event, Bubby Knott of the Flat Iron Farm for providing a place to have it, to Herbie Smith for getting the barn ready for us, my wife, Michelle, for all the hard work she did on Saturday.  I don’t know how I could have done it without her.  Thanks to all of the other volunteers: Lorraine (my Mom), Debbie Johnson, Pat Barber & Marie Windsor, Andrea Deaderick, Dan & Priscilla Abbotson for printing and donating the t-shirts, all of the vendors who participated and donated to the cause, to Andrea Shiell of the County Times for the great article/interview, to the Baynet for their coverage.

All of the bands were great and donated there talents, thanks to all.  We had 7 local Bluegrass bands, my band and I, Eastern Tradition, Bubby Abell, Joey Tippett, Charlie Thompson, Recent Addition, Jack Tippett, and David Norris.  We also had a band that traveled a long distance, Foggy Mountain Hilton from Rockville, MD who replaced a band at the last minute.  Plus our headlining act, Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass.  I’d also like to send a special thank you to Troy Jones who kept everything on cue with the sound.  He’s fantastic and a great friend.

It was a lot of work putting this together, but a lot of fun too.

If there’s someone who I missed that helped me on Saturday, please forgive me.  It was a very busy day, but you’re very much appreciated.

Once again, I’d like to say, it takes a community to make an event like this happen and St. Mary’s County, you did it!

Thanks again,

Jay Armsworthy
